From a hospital bed and full of tubes a teenage boy reflects on life, nature, his strange extended family and murder.

Leon Black just wants one thing, and that is to be a naturalist like his hero Sir David Attenborough, he studies hard and knows almost every species that there is. But after his father dies and he moves in with his mother’s new boyfriend he is soon bullied by his son Carl and his friends. There is a thing inside his head, he doesn’t know what it is or how it got there, just that it wants him to fight back, a thing that can project you deep into your worse nightmare where it leaves you to die.
When things start spiralling out of control he finds himself having to go on the run where gradually he makes the painful transition from naturalist to mass murderer.
